Hiking in the Rocky Mountain West
02/25/2011 Gail Ridings

My friend Shelly and I took off for four days of spring break hiking in Utah. It was so much fun and so easy to get there: 5 ½ hours on I-70. And so inexpensive: $100 a night for the room, $5 a day to hike and less than $50 a day for food.

We went on several jaw-dropping trails that were not only beautiful, but incredibly unique and leg-shaking exciting. One morning, getting up early and arriving at Delicate Arch before anyone else, we spent almost 45 minutes sitting and meditating, looking out through the magnificent arch to the snow-capped Rockies beyond.

If you love to be outside and appreciate phenomenal sights, step away from your computer, get in the car and go right now. You won't regret it!

P.S. I'm sure there are many more wonderful hikes we've missed, in places like Crested Butte and Telluride, Rocky Mountain National Park and the Wet Mountain Valley. Please share your favorite hikes with us. We'll check 'em out.

Why is it that 99% of the time my worrying is worse than the actual event I was concerned about?

As I've aged, I have learned not only to appreciate quiet but to seek it out.

As you know, “celebration” is a central theme at TallGrass.

In my humble opinion, gratitude is one of the most powerful, accessible keys to happiness.

I don’t know about you, but lately I don’t like listening to the news or even checking Facebook.

I was a shy, awkward, only child. So, my best friends were always animals.
