TallGrass Spa sends 267 Soldier Boxes to troops in Middle East
Overwhelming community support for care package project

With a lot of help from their friends, the staff of Evergreen's TallGrass Spa organized the shipment of 267 Soldier Boxes to troops in the Middle East. "We beat our record from last year by six boxes!" announced Gail Sharp, TallGrass Spa owner.

On Thursday night, Nov. 14, dozens of volunteers reported to The Wild Game Entertainment venue, cleared of tables and gaming attractions, to sort donated items into categories – shampoo, lotion, lip balm, toothpaste, soap, dental floss, razors, paperback books, and so on – making sure everything was ready for Friday's packing day. Then at 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning, dozens more volunteers arrived to pack flat rate postal boxes and load them into a post office van to begin the trip to the Middle East.

"There was an unbelievable amount of community support," says Ms. Sharp. "Shipping money was dropped off, folks from the community who heard about the packing stopped in to help. And, we collected over 2,000 cards written by both kids and the adult community. These are the most beloved things in the boxes."

This is TallGrass Spa's 10th year of sending support to troops overseas through their care package program known as the TallGrass Soldier Box Project. This holiday's record breaking shipment brings the total to 1,700 packages sent since the project began. The next shipment is scheduled for Mother's Day/Father's Day and donations are already being accepted at TallGrass Spa.
