What:
During the past month, individuals and groups collected donations of essential items homeless vets can use and delivered them to Evergreen's Wild Game Experience.

Hundreds of items arrived in cartons, shrink-wrapped, on pallets. Cash contributions were received.

Service clubs, residents of an assisted living facility, a variety of high school groups, and a service group of developmentally disabled adults, along with individuals from Evergreen and metro Denver communities shopped, boxed, and delivered personal care items to Wild Game.

The donations will be sorted and packed into 300 string backpacks for distribution to homeless vets in metro Denver and along the front range.

Items include face masks, hand sanitizer, soap, combs, aspirin, hand and feet warmers, bottles of water, and underwear.

The filled backpacks go to Volunteers of America's Bill Daniels Veteran Service Center in Denver for distribution to homeless vets by the Center's case managers.

Special guests attending Sorting Day and Packing Day include representatives of the Rotary, Kiwanis and Elks Clubs and high school students who participated in the project.

About the TallGrass Soldier Bag Project:
In a program that began eleven years ago, TallGrass organized support for military members through its Soldier Box Project by collecting, assembling, and shipping boxes of personal care items to troops overseas. Over the life of the program, more than a thousand care packages were shipped. Now, however, with the Afghanistan troop withdrawal, the program has shifted to a Soldier Bag Project for homeless vets. It coincides with Veterans Day, Nov 11.

"It's important to connect with our service members any way we can," says TallGrass owner Gail Sharp. "We want to recognize everyone who served. Just because they are back home, doesn't mean our thanks are done."
