Earth Month at TallGrass
30 days of Celebration and Fundraising for Clean Water

Since the first Earth Day was celebrated in San Francisco in 1970, the movement to protect the earth's natural environment has grown into Earth Month, 30 days in April when millions of people around the world participate in events bringing awareness to caring for the earth and living sustainably all year long.

For TallGrass Aveda Spa and Salon in Evergreen, Colorado, the combination of its connection to the Aveda mission to care for the world we live in, its peaceful location in a pristine mountain meadow, and its staff of caregivers committed to nurturing, it seems perfectly natural that Earth Month would be a big deal, indeed.

"Earth Month at TallGrass has always been very important," says owner Gail Ridings. "Caring for our planet is part of our creed and definitely in keeping with the Aveda philosophy. We've raised thousands of dollars through Earth Month campaigns over the years and the bar is set high for this year."

With a goal to raise $3,000 in funding for clean water projects and taking a cue from Aveda's programs to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth, TallGrass expands its outreach this year to include a walk-a-thon, proceeds from product sales, and fundraising celebrations -- both for guests and for themselves -- around the spa.

Walk for Water
The "Aveda Walk for Water" happens in cities all over the world in an effort to raise awareness and funds for clean water organizations. The Evergreen 4 km walk, coordinated by TallGrass, observes the distances that women in developing nations must walk each day to find clean water. It takes place on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the Evergreen Lake House. Entry fee is $20 minimum and participants are encouraged to bring banners and signs to let onlookers along the route know about the importance of protecting the earth's water resources.

Jeans for Greens
Normally, staffers are discouraged from wearing jeans to work but, during April, "Jeans for Greens" earns them the privilege of wearing jeans in return for a $5 donation. Elsewhere, behind the scenes at the spa, funds are being raised in the staff breakroom through sales of home-baked treats.

Light the Way Candles
Aveda Light the Way Candles and Earth Month H2O Water Bottles are limited edition items, available in the TallGrass boutique exclusively in April, and offered for sale with 100% of the purchase price, $12 and $21 respectively, being donated to water-related projects.

Around the Spa
Celebrations are taking place all around the spa. In the hair salon, a donation could bring a complimentary hair cut; at checkout, guests are encouraged to round-it-up to the next dollar; a small donation can earn a lip wax or foot massage after a facial; in the nail room, home baked cookies are available for sale; and, at the local Mountain Area Earth Day Fair at Evergreen Lake House on April 21, chair massages at the TallGrass booth will be offered for donations.

Western Resource Advocates
Monies raised during Earth Month promotions at TallGrass will be donated to Western Resource Advocates, a non-profit organization, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, committed to protecting the west's land, air and water. And, sales of the Aveda water bottles and candles benefit the Aveda Global Greengrants fund.

TallGrass Aveda Spa and Salon, this year celebrating its 17th anniversary, is located in a picturesque mountain meadow beside Upper Bear Creek in the Rocky Mountain foothills town of Evergreen, just 45 minutes from Denver. The spa offers a complete menu of luxury services, along with catered lunches, boutique shopping and private party space.
