earth month Message from Gail Ridings, TallGrass Owner

Perspective. It always helps me.

I had the privilege of meeting and hearing a talk by Arok Garang, one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan," at a recent Rotary meeting. For those of you who have not heard this incredible story, thousands of young boys walked 1,000 miles from Sudan to Ethiopia after their parents were killed by rebels. Arok, who was 7 at the time, lived through an unbelievably difficult ordeal at such a young age. After hearing him speak, I wanted to get to know him better and invited him to a dinner party this past weekend. Speaking to him certainly put my current issues in perspective. I'm sure you'll agree that, though things may seem tough sometimes, there are hundreds of thousands of people enduring much, much worse.

In November, we celebrate our 20th anniversary! I can't believe it's been 20 years! Instead of coordinating a fashion show benefit this year, we're focusing on giving back to a group of people who are enduring hardships for our country: our soldiers. We are increasing our goal from 30 to 100 Soldier Boxes for the November holiday shipment to troops in Afghanistan. And, we need your help! More details are below in this newsletter.

And, to honor our women in the military, we are giving away 50 free $100 treatments to military women who currently serve or are veterans. We are accepting names for a lottery drawing for services to be given away during the week of November 9 through 13. All military women are welcome to call TallGrass with their military ID and they will be put on the list to be selected.

We are so excited and honored to celebrate our anniversary by raising our level of participation with our Soldier Box Project and honoring women in the military. Please share information about these programs with everyone you know and invite them to get involved. More information follows.

Sandi Morrison, Spa Babe

A perfect fit for our TallGrass family, Sandi is devoted to caring for guests and fellow staff members alike. Her cheerful, sweet smile makes everyone's day brighter and that's why she's our Spa Babe.

Sandi came to TallGrass after retiring from a career with the airlines, where she honed her customer service skills - no, really! Let her explain: "I worked international flights which are more like the airlines used to be, pre-deregulation, before everything seemed to change. International is still customer-friendly and fun."

Nowadays, you can find Sandi in the TallGrass retail department where she's organizing merchandise and offering suggestions to guests. "I get so much pleasure from setting up displays and making everything look attractive," she says. "I love helping people find just the right skin care product or piece of jewelry."

TallGrass Celebrates Military Women

To commemorate our 20th anniversary, we are foregoing the cake and champagne reception, and instead doing something much more meaningful - celebrating military women.

The TallGrass Celebration of Military Women has lots of facets. We're participating in a couple of conferences for veterans, offering complimentary spa services to military women, upping our Solider Box goal, and offering you ways to join us and become involved.

The Soldier Box Project is one you've been hearing about for 7 years now. Increasing our goal to send at least 100 care packages to troops in Afghanistan for the November holiday shipment takes lots of support from the community. Already, grammar school students have committed to writing letters and seniors at assisted living are knitting caps. We've established drop-off locations in Evergreen and metro Denver where folks can contribute personal care items along with cards and letters to be included in the boxes. We are also accepting cash donations to help cover shipping costs and, as always, selling Aveda travel size products at our cost when donated to the project. All of the details about items needed for the care packages and drop-off locations will be posted on our website. You can also follow us on Facebook for more ideas about ways to get your school, class and neighborhood involved.

The TallGrass giveaway of complimentary spa services to military women takes place the week of November 9 through 13, just in time for Veterans Day. Please spread the word and let military women in your communities know that all it takes is a phone call to TallGrass to be included in the drawing. We'll pick 50 winners at random, call to make appointments and look forward to welcoming them to TallGrass.

Hair Extensions

Dog Wash Report

Look around. Know that person who had short hair last week but it's long and flowing this week? What about the one who had sparse, thinning hair but now it's thick and voluminous? What's their secret? Hair extensions. And, we're offering them at TallGrass.

We can give you long, luxurious hair or a partial fill-in, matching your hair with straight or curly human hair, in a process that takes about 2 hours and lasts 6 months. Give us a call to set up a consultation. And, if you call now, you'll save with our October special. For example, a full head extension normally priced at $1,500 is just $1,200 in October.
