Last month, I wrote about my sorrow of losing my dog and a beloved horse here at my little ranch. Heartbreaking for sure.
Yet, over the years I've learned that, for me, healing starts with new beginnings. Others probably think this is a bit callous or disrespectful to the animals' memories. But Nutmeg's and Lucky's spirits live with me no matter what. A new creature never takes that away. Instead, I muse that quite possibly part of their spirits, their love, goes into the next animals that come. So, meet Miguel, my newly adopted, amazing, 7-month-old mixed breed rescue puppy, and Jake, my beautiful new Missouri
Fox Trotter gelding (pictured here). Already they are helping with my healing.
I am unable to stop changes and challenges in my life. But, I can make a decision to stay stuck in misery or to continue moving forward with hope and joy. Don't get me wrong, I still have flashes of particular memories that bring me to tears. Those that I've lost will never leave me. But, I'm still here and I believe that I honor them all by living well and with joy.
I hope that you are experiencing a fantastic, joyful beginning of summer. Oh, what a glorious time of year!
