and her husband hosted a wonderful birthday party at my ranch for their 5-year-old and his friends.
The day was chilly, cloudy with bits of rain, and yet loud peals of laughter and running kids were everywhere. It brought me such feelings of joy and abandon. My dog, Jolene, was out in the thick of things playing with the children and my goats and miniature horse got into the action, too. Everyone was so happy!!!
It was a wonderful respite from an otherwise tough past month when I had to say goodbye to my 15 ½ year old dog, Nutmeg (pictured above), and we also lost an older, unwell horse that had been an important companion to one of my dearest friends during some of her own trials. Many, many tears. Add to that the tough challenges for many people close to me, the world’s events, and on and on.
Yet, I can be grateful that I still experience the highs (and the lows) of life. Without snow and rain, would we appreciate sun and warmth as much? I know I wouldn’t. I’m alive and able to share the joys and heartaches with my friends, my animals, and my vision of God. I wouldn’t trade that ability for anything.
The beautiful, fresh, young month of May is here! Babies coming, flowers ready to burst open, and hopefully lots of wet weather to carry us into summer. I’m outside constantly and hope you get outside, too. As one of my meditation books says, “Let nature have her way with you.”
