April 2026

As everyone who experienced these past months in Colorado knows, we really had no winter.
Very few cold days, almost no snow, lots of high winds, and record warmth.
In our high desert climate, snow in the mountains provides us with critical moisture to keep life healthy for the entire year and helps prevent the real fear of wild fire. This is especially true in Evergreen where high winds have toppled hundreds of huge healthy trees all over our mountain community and power companies have been proactively shutting down electricity in case the wind knocks trees into power lines. Unfortunately, we had to close TallGrass several times because of this wind.
But, we do have a generator and are installing auxiliary equipment to supply power to our well pumps. Obviously, a spa without water isn't ideal!
All of this is concerning, for sure. And yet, if I focus on the day I'm in, this weather has been heavenly for activities like walking, riding, being outside without 10 layers of clothing. However, if you happen to say to someone, "What a beautiful day!" they often respond, "Yes, but…it's not normal, skiing has been terrible, the possibility of fire this summer will be so high." On and on, it's so easy to fall into the trap of focusing on worry and fear and dread instead of enjoying
the moment we are in. Isn't this situation a perfect example of what we often do daily when we skip over appreciation for the day and launch into a lament about the past or the future???
So, as I write this on March 30th, it's going to be 70 degrees today with puffy clouds and a lot of sunshine. I will remind myself to appreciate where I am, and not just with the weather, but with everything else as well.
I certainly can't control the weather (or anything else for that matter), but I can control my reactions to happenings around me. I hope you will put aside your worries about the future and enjoy the day with me!
