Celebrate with a gift from Tallgrass

Message from Gail Sharp

January 2026

Mural Composite

This past December has been particularly sad and exhausting.

It is not only easy to feel down but somehow I feel compelled to be sad, as if I'm honoring heartbreaking situations by being miserable. However, as I remember "what I focus on grows," I will continue to work towards hope, joy, and peace. To that end, I'll share an uplifting story from my friend Gail Riley.

Gail and other leaders in our community commissioned a mural to be painted on an ugly old tunnel walkway close to downtown Evergreen. It had been neglected over the years and was truly an eyesore. With artist Bobby MaGee Lopez's work, it was transformed! Gorgeous! Then, shortly after he finished, someone tagged the art with ugly graffiti. All of Evergreen was outraged. What stupid person did such a terrible thing??? Social media was buzzing with anger and "let's find who did this and punish them" sentiments.

But then, a remarkable thing happened. Bobby requested that we publicize these words in hopes of speaking to the person who did the tagging:

Recently, my mural was tagged by another artist. Clearly this person has been painting for a while in Evergreen and potentially has some skill. Instead of publicly shaming this person, I invite this unknown artist to join me in the spring to assist in completing the next phase of the tunnel of love mural. I understand what it's like to want to create something but not have the opportunity or resources to do so. Let's develop an alliance and rally behind the spirit of creation as an alternative to destruction. You clearly wish to make your mark. Come into the light and out of the dark.

Gulp. I actually teared up when Gail read this to me. What grace, forgiveness, and kindness. Thank you, Bobby, for demonstrating the path of grace!

I continue to be so grateful for my life and for the many gifts given to me year after year. I hope that you, too, can start 2026 focused on hope and joy and peace.

EAPL Oden
Rhodesian Ridgeback/mixed, male, 3 months

Oden is a cute little guy with a giant personality. He lost an eye when he was just a little fellow but that has not stopped him from being a normal puppy. He is very confident and gets along with all the dogs in the house where he is being fostered. He does great on a leash and is okay in the car. The ideal family does not have cats, small dogs, or little children but they do have a yard, are active, and will want to take him on adventures and spoil him with him lots of toys, dog beds, and snuggles on the couch.
