Many years ago, I was at a department store trying on a pair of 4-inch high heels. Pointed toes. High fashion. Sexy. It was the only type of shoe I wore at my corporate job in Chicago. Comfortable? No!
I was with a friend and sitting close to us was an older woman (probably my age now) trying on black sneaker type shoes, maybe something like today's Clarks or Sketchers. We both laughed and I said, "If I ever wear shoes like that, shoot me." Luckily, I moved away from that friend because she'd have killed me long before now. I've been wearing only comfortable shoes pretty much since the day I set foot in Evergreen. So much for my prediction.
Sometimes I still say "I'll never do that." Oh, how ignorant and pompous. Unless I've walked in someone else's shoes, I really have no idea what's going on with their actions and decisions. Just this past week, I did something I was certain I would never do. And I went through a hard lesson. It was a reminder to get off my judgement throne and give everyone more compassion and understanding, especially when I know only a tiny part of the story. How fortunate I am to have loving friends who
accept and love me, flaws and all.
We've been having super-hot weather lately which isn't as much fun on a ranch. Flies and heat make the animals miserable. Yet, it's lush and green and we've also had afternoon storms that cool things off and keep things from drying out completely. Summer goes so danged fast and I'm determined to appreciate these last couple of warm and sunny months. There are so many wonderful activities – but mostly I'm happy to just sit outside on a bench staring at the grass, or the clouds, or the
hummingbirds. JOY!
Please come visit our gorgeous valley and spend some time relaxing with our healing treatments and sitting on our lovely patio. It's a perfect time of year!
