Gail

Meditation. Have you tried it? I have. About 216 times. And yet, I have failed to achieve a quiet mind, floating freedom, or reverie. I've tried everything - staring at a candle flame, chanting calming words, listening to tapes, sitting in complete darkness, and even taking classes. Nope.

But, it's not a total loss. I do take time every, single morning - no matter what! - to sit as quietly as I can, attempt to still my mind, and focus on spiritual matters like love, peace, and compassion. I read a daily inspiration and write in a journal. My mind doesn't quite shut off, but at least my attention is on a higher purpose and I don't begin the day by reading emails and listening to the news.

It's changed my life in profound ways. I can't emphasize enough how much this quiet time each morning has helped me with gratitude, strength, and letting go of stress. While I've haven't connected with my "third eye" and still have a "monkey chattering" mind, it does make a difference. Maybe it can help you, too!

At TallGrass, we believe that silent contemplation is so important that we're adding a new component to the spa. Stay tuned. You'll see changes coming very soon. Until then, please enjoy our glorious summer mornings - quietly.

Wine, Washes & Wagging Tails - 7th edition

If watching a dog be a dog is your idea of a good time, do we have an event for you!

Our 7th annual dog wash fundraiser benefitting Evergreen Animal Protective League is scheduled for Sunday, July 23, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., in the Evergreen National Bank drive-thru in downtown Evergreen.

A $20 ticket gets one wash by volunteers for man's best friend and one glass of wine for his owner. Doggie shakes and spraying water are free. We'll have door prizes, a photo booth, and EAPL animals available for adoption, too.

Proceeds benefit the all-volunteer League which aids lost, abandoned and suffering animals through rescue, shelter and education.

Come on down, bring your dog - and a camera.

Stephanie Brauns
Spa Babe

Stephanie loves a spa-like environment and she thinks TallGrass is the epitome of what a spa should be. "I pretty much fell in love with the place when I had my first-ever facial at TallGrass 10 years ago," she says. "And, after working in the oil and gas industry, I really wanted a more relaxing job." Fast forward a decade and Stephanie has the job of her dreams in a much more relaxing environment here at TallGrass where she fills the dual roles of esthetician and massage therapist.

"It's totally all about following where your heart leads and being open to new experiences," she says. Her go-with-the-flow attitude and a big helping of courage led her to change careers and take the advice of the folks at the Aveda Institute where she studied who thought she'd be great at massages and facials. She is!

For Stephanie, it's also about the simple life...working at TallGrass, hiking with her two dogs, and driving out west to Palisade to visit her parents and help out in their vineyard. In following her heart, Stephanie sets the perfect example for us all.
