Message from Gail Sharp, TallGrass Owner

On our daily walks, my dog, Nutmeg, runs forward while looking backward at me and my other, older dog, Pepper. She’s focused on what we’re doing and rarely looks ahead. Of course, that means she often crashes into trees and trips over rocks not to mention that she misses enjoying the sights and smells ahead of her. This struck me as a strong metaphor for my new year. Maybe yours, too?

Focusing on the past, another person or object does little for our own growth, success and happiness. So, I'm looking FORWARD towards the next 24 hours of my life, bright days and a healthy, wonderful future ahead.

Marian Rose, Spa Babe

It’s the connection to beauty that attracts Marian to TallGrass. “I love the way TallGrass is a place of beauty and where extraordinary transformations happen,” she says. “The whole essence of the place is aligned with my own values to treat people beautifully, see their uniqueness and encourage growth.”

Marian began her career as a nutritionist/herbalist and reflects that she makes important changes in her life about every 10 years. Going from nutrition to massage therapy and more recently studying oncology massage, she thinks it’s important to be open to change. “I keep refining and discovering new aspects of myself,” she says. “With cancer patients in clinical settings, I can give services I would not have been able to give five years ago.”

Still the herbalist and always the believer in the power of beauty, Marian loves the Evergreen lifestyle…going on nature hikes, collecting plants, making planter boxes, and enjoying her grandchildren, too. “I found my groove,” she says.

Marian’s love and appreciation for TallGrass and her profound connection to team members and guests makes her the perfect candidate to be named Spa Babe, our highest honor.

Philanthropy Report 2015

Our TallGrass philanthropy program covers a lot of ground. It incorporates our core values, connects us to our community, shows our staff the joy of giving, encourages the participation of our guests, and -- hopefully – makes the world a better place.

In 2015, we were as busy as ever coordinating our fundraising efforts, most of which have become annual affairs – our soldier box project, dog wash, earth month activities, local rodeo and the holiday party for needy children, along with the support of hundreds of area non-profits through silent auction gift certificate donations.

The centerpiece of our philanthropic effort in 2015 was the “TallGrass Celebration of Military Women,” conceived in observance of our 20th anniversary and designed to take our soldier box project to the next level. The community came out in force to help us fill and ship 211 care packages for troops in Afghanistan for the Christmas holiday. We gave away complimentary spa services to 50 military women during Veterans Week and pampered more military women with makeovers by our stylists and estheticians at a veterans’ conference and in the TallGrass salon.

In all our 2015 philanthropy projects combined, we raised and donated $20,448, volunteered 2,500 hours and touched thousands of lives. We are so grateful for the enthusiastic participation of our staff, our guests and our community, working together to make a better world.
