Dogs Lilly and Ginger, our Spa Dogs, welcome you to Springtime at TallGrass!

Although the huge snowstorm we just received didn't really indicate the change of season, it was a wonderful way to bring desperately needed moisture to our dry ground. After this warm, dry winter - did we actually even have a winter? - I am ready for wet. And lots of it!

Before you know it, our flowers and grasses will be in full bloom and the wildflowers will cover our mountains. Please plan a trip up to TallGrass to see this spectacular change of season. You deserve the escape!

Earth Day is coming up but, at TallGrass, we're celebrating Earth Month. Our focus on protecting the environment is inspiring us to raise funds in support of grassroots groups.

First, there's our bottle cap recycling program. We told you about it last month and this is your reminder. Help us keep plastic caps out of landfills and away from wildlife by bringing them to TallGrass for recycling into new caps and containers.

Then, we're putting the fun in fundraising with these special events.

  • Walk for Water: On April 6, the staff of TallGrass joins those from other Aveda distributors, salons, spas, stores and institutes in a 6K event that acknowledges the daily struggle of over one billion people around the world who do not have access to clean water. In the metro Denver area, the Walk for Water raises funds for Western Resource Advocates and honors the women in third world countries who walk more than this distance every day to gather clean drinking water for their families.
  • Water Wall: Your donations of $5 and $10 buy "Little Steps" to hang on the water wall in our reception area. Every $10 donation earns an entry into a drawing to win a gift basket of Aveda products, valued at $50, compliments of TallGrass. The "Little Steps" represent distances women in developing nations walk each day to collect clean water for their families. All donations go to Western Resource Advocates.
  • Greens for Jeans: When staff members make a $10 donation to Western Resource Advocates, they earn the privilege of wearing jeans to work for a day. Normally, jeans don't fit into the TallGrass dress code but, for the sake of our environment, we are delighted to support this exception during April.
  • Earth Candles: Aveda's limited edition Light the Way candles, scented with organic Bulgarian lavender oil, are made of soy wax and sell for just $10 each. All sales benefit Global Greengrants.
  • Cut-a-thon: TallGrass stylists are conducting a Cut-a-thon on Sunday, April 19, when you can get a haircut for only $50. Our stylists are donating their time and the entire amount goes to Western Resource Advocates. Appointments are limited, so please call 303-670-4444 today to reserve your time. (No other styling services are offered that day.)
  • Environmental Bags for Sale: One hundred billion plastic bags and 10 billion paper bags are used each year. Our Big Bags for a Smaller Footprint (only $5) are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and cotton. Use them, reuse them, and save our planet.

Mother's day Cucumbers

Mom always told you to eat your vegetables. TallGrass has a better idea. Mothers and daughters who visit the spa on any Monday through Friday in May, and purchase a minimum of $150 in services for each on that day, are treated to a photo of themselves relaxing in their spa robes - with or without cucumbers on their eyes. They receive a complimentary lunch and will remember their leisurely spa day with the "cucumber" photo emailed to each of them. And, Mom takes home a silvertone picture frame with a Happy Mother's Day 2009 message to safe keep her photo.

Handmade gifts are a Mothers Day tradition. From TallGrass to Mom, with Love. On Mother's Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10, charming four-inch clay pots, hand painted and lovingly planted with wheatgrass by the TallGrass staff, are gifts to all mothers who visit TallGrass and receive services valued at $100 or more.

Here's more Relief for Hands and Feet. If you go online to purchase an instantly printable Mother's Day-design gift certificate, valued at $100 or more, we'll add something special to your gift for Mom. When she comes to TallGrass in May or June and presents the gift certificate, we'll give her Aveda's travel size Hand Relief and Foot Relief.

Tall Grass

Block Thursday, May 21, on your calendar and plan to sign-up for a morning golf clinic and luncheon at the private Hiwan Golf Club followed by an afternoon at TallGrass where you'll enjoy your favorite spa treatment.

These two Evergreen businesses are teaming up for a Sport and Spa Day that starts with a 90-minute golf clinic, for beginning or experienced golfers, taught by PGA Professionals Kyle Heyen and Kevin Hanley. Lunch in the club dining room, overlooking the greens, features a selection of salmon or chicken salads. Then, it's off to TallGrass for your choice of a massage, body treatment, facial - all 50-minute services - or a combination of a regular manicure and pedicure.

The day starts at 10:45 a.m. and wraps up at 4:00 p.m. Cost is $150 per person and gratuities are included. Call TallGrass at 303-670-4444 to reserve your spot today.
