Message from Gail Ridings, TallGrass Owner

This is a photo of Melissa Rackliff and me as she accepted our coveted Spa Babe award in 2002. Oh, how young we looked. What a difference 12 years makes! Back then, Mel was one of our rising Guest Relations team members – smart, reliable, talented, and personable – with a great attitude to match. Fast forward to 2014, and I am pleased to announce that Mel has been promoted to Spa Director.

During her many years of work at TallGrass, Melissa has shown her skills in a variety of positions from our first Sage Room coordinator, to Guest Relations Team Leader and then Assistant Spa Director. It has been inspiring to watch her learn and grow consistently to be ready to take on the high level of responsibility and challenge as the manager of our company.

Mel graduated from Ohio University in 1995 (the year TallGrass opened!) with a degree in Fine Arts. She is an accomplished artist, and has a wonderful family – husband Jason and two children, Noah and Jaxon.

We are thrilled to have Mel in this new role. She will be out and about in the spa and I know she'd love to meet you and say hello. And, of course, she'll be front and center at our Transistions14 Hair and Fashion show! We hope to see you there!

Transitions14 Hair and Fashion Show
Mad Hatter Tea Party Theme
September 24

Transitions14 Hair and Fashion Show organizer Jen Schapiro (many of you know her as the Team Leader of our Hair Department) sends this update on the show.

All of our models are local folks. We have staff members, TallGrass guests and friends, and we are spicing it up with male models this year. The kids and men will be wearing snow gear for the coming season and TallGrass stylists are doing the men's hair, the idea being to incorporate "manscaping," and show the latest trends, including cool styles for men with beards. On the women's side, the hair team is really excited to show their renditions of Mad Hatter Tea Party hair! We all got together and had a tutu making party to adorn our hair models. So excited!

The excitement kicks-off at 6 o'clock on Wednesday, September 24, at Evergreen Country Day School. There will be a silent auction, wine pull, cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. The guest with the best Mad Hatter Tea Party look – be creative! – a wild, outrageous, nonsensical hat – or an entire mad-as-a-hatter costume – will win a TallGrass Body and Sole spa package. Ticket options range from $25 to $45 (add $5 at the door) and, if you haven't purchased your tickets yet, you'd better get going because this fashion event of the Evergreen season always sells out!

Spa Babe - Mary Louise DeLoy

Mary Louise DeLoy
Spa Babe

An amazingly talented massage therapist who consistently gets rave reviews from guests, Mary Louise DeLoy joins the ranks of the TallGrass Spa Babes. When the announcement was made that she would receive this honor, we added our own rave reviews for her flexibility, willingness to help her teammates and her enthusiasm for volunteering to work on our fundraising events, like coordinating details for our upcoming fashion show. Thanks, Mary Louise, we wouldn't want to do it without you!

A little more than a year ago, Mary Louise accepted a job at TallGrass after finding the opening online. Imagine! She had never even heard of us before. But, her friends had. And, they were excited to hear that she was joining the TallGrass massage team.

Who could blame her? She had been living and working in Connecticut, away from her close knit Colorado family – parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Coming to work at TallGrass was part of her homecoming journey. "I had to go away a little bit to grow up on my own, and then come back and fit into my family dynamic," she says.

Working as a massage therapist at TallGrass fills Mary Louise's desire to connect one-on-one with guests and fellow staff members. "It feels like a good fit," she says. "TallGrass is in alignment with how I want to live my life, treating people with compassion, kindness and openness."

Mary Louise is pictured here with TallGrass owner Gail Ridings.
